Getting started with PlayStation Plus: which tier is right for you

PlayStation Plus is split into tiers, and the right one depends mostly on one question: do you want a library of games to dip into, or do you only need online play for the games you already own?

If you only play online

The entry tier covers online multiplayer, cloud saves and a few monthly games. If you mainly play one or two live-service titles with friends, this is all you need.

If you like trying new games

The middle tier adds a large catalogue of downloadable games. For anyone who finishes a few games a month, it usually works out cheaper than buying them — and it is a great way to try genres you wouldn’t normally pay for.

If you want everything

The top tier adds classic titles from older PlayStation generations, streaming, and time-limited trials of new releases. It makes sense for players who enjoy retro games or want to test a big release before committing.

Tips before subscribing

  • Check the current catalogue first — titles rotate, and the list on the store is the only reliable source.
  • Annual plans are discounted compared to monthly, but only commit once you know how much you’ll use it.
  • Monthly games have to be claimed while they’re available; once added to your library they stay as long as you’re subscribed.
